A Solitary Bee

the solitary bee

A quiet observation of a solitary bee at work, capturing the fleeting beauty and energy of nature in a rock garden.

sat alone on a metal bench
silent & smoking.

the solitary bee never ceases to amaze me.
it darts from on height

(that tiny thing)
into this blooming rock garden

head buried in the pink Creeping Phlox;
it stuffs fine gold pollen

into its hairy receptacles
on its hind legs &

in all of 20 seconds –
it ascended vertically

like take off on a jet plane
& in a blink –

(that tiny thing)
disappeared…
