Requiem
A strange anti-gun poem imagining AR-15s turned against each other, exploring violence, destruction, unity and the lingering shadow of America’s gun culture.
Scorching day’s embrace,
AR-15’s clash in heat,
Midnight shadows loom.
In twisted dance,
Eager throng catches voices,
Flames of anarchy.
Guns turned enemies,
Blasted, strewn upon street,
Shattered remnants stay.
Charging relentlessly,
Juggernaut’s roar resounds,
Crushing underneath.
Municipal sweeper,
Brushes up dissipated steel,
Gone without a trace.
Throng cheers, hands do clap.
Tears of joy, unity’s birth.
Death’s past lingers by.
