Winter Blues: Serene Vistas as Play Gives Way to Tears

By No Comments1 min read
a black and white street art picture of a skeleton with butteryfly wings

Winter Blues

Tinted pink shapes
in this cold blue sky.

White blanket covers the pavement, the streets, the conifer,       the dead tree / sleeping:
warfare is not welcome here.

The pregnant woman from no.10
slams front door and ambles in her platform shoes
almost slipping on the ice &
off to work she slides.

Discrete at my window
I awe at the snowy hill on the horizon,
picturesque with brown steeple
of abandoned church protruding,
but breached is the peace

when two Chinese children from Shenzhen,
the girl clutching
a fluffy Dalmatian
swings her brother’s tiny hand

& whoosh goes his bobble hat –

he
crashes
face
down
&

is
WAILING.
