The Ellipse
On the expensive lawn of the Ellipse
She makes her final call
To be the 47th President.
In front of the White House
Where blacks were banned from
Using the park in 1894,
& her adversary’s remarks
Not long ago sparked attacks
On the US Capitol,
This stark choice is laid down:
Choose this fascist felon again
Full of dark language, retribution
& revenge,
Then democracy is done
& history repeats itself.
Behind that resolute desk
He may ban me
From ever standing on this lawn.
But this is a new dawn.
Most people have made up their minds,
But you conflicted voters
Balanced on a knife edge,
Help us turn the page –
The first to do many great things
& this won’t be last –
Black woman bidding
For a bloodless revolution.
