My Lord: Hunger, Wisdom and Regal Encounters

Collage shows the Saudi Crown Prince and Queen Elizabeth II at lunch, juxtaposed with an image of a hungry child in a desert and lords in an ancient chamber.

My Lord

“My Lord” is a short political poem contrasting royal privilege, parliamentary debate and hunger, questioning wisdom, power and compassion in modern Britain.

Crown prince touches Elizabeth II
they beamed before eating lunch.

Lords address in ancient chamber
beyond the dispatch box

questioning flailed wisdom
in foreign affairs, a distant place

where a child’s belly hungers for fruit.
the dullard’s heart raged against them.
