Cogito Ergo Sum

A short modern poem inspired by René Descartes’ famous philosophical statement, exploring identity, consciousness, and existence through a simple moment of reflection in a summer garden.

My sum of Latin was not at school imparted,
But acquired by random chance in a flower-
Filled garden as the sun hid and an active
Bee buzzed: “I think, therefore I am.”

I pinched myself and felt the squeeze,
So therefore I must be.
