Which came first, man or monkey?

A gentle, contemplative poem inspired by an encounter in The Gambia, reflecting on humanity, nature and the quiet bond between man and monkey.

Which came first, monkey?
Africa’s wild bench, lone soul,
Nature’s question posed.

Chased tourist with glee,
Now still, a captured moment,
In their gaze, a bond.

Man and monkey meet,
Nature’s rhythm, pure and sweet,
Silent understanding.
