Laid Bare XII

The King of the North’s paradigm shift
Sees an exodus of people flee Tyre and Sidon.
Atrocities committed in sight of the world,
In one day over the border 600 killed.

Nations stand idle, their hands drenched in blood,
While innocence crumbles beneath the genocide.
Firm ally grows old and his lights soon out,
But still he supplies the King with intel and arms.

The mountains weep rivers of ichor and tears,
Where once there was יְהוָה, only now despair.
The ancient valleys whisper of peace long gone
As war drums drown out the songs of Lebanon.

The olive trees sway, heavy with sorrow,
Terror descending with the dread of tomorrow,
Like Gaza déjà vu, skies darkly shroud;
Screams of the children grow unbearably loud.

The cedar trees fall, their roots torn away,
Plume smoke of missile strikes turn night into day.
Mothers clutch girls who will never grow old,
Fathers dig graves for their unborn sons.

The sea, once a haven, now swells with fear,
The abode for refugees as the homeland disappears.
Once a vibrant country pummelled to ruins?
Death’s bitter pill replace ancient tunes.

A sacred history, cleansed in the sand,
The King of the North tightens his hand.
“Open your doors, Lebanon,” he shouts,
“Fire will consume your cedars and

Wail, cypress tree, for the cedar has fallen,
The old growth forest has been cut down.
Hear the wailing of the shepherds,
The magnificence of the forest’s impending doom!”

Can you hear the screams of the children?
The world looks on in barren despair.
