Artificial Intelligence and the Nuclear Energy Dilemma

AI and Nuclear

Our changing future brings a surge in demand,
Multilevel facilities springing up across the land.
Grid is under strain, bold actions must be made,
Technology devouring energy, net zero is delayed.

A dated grid like Frankenstein once in its prime,
Energy needs will double in such a short space of time.
Heat pumps, electric cars, and the internet’s weight,
Russian oil boycotted means countries must innovate.

Data centers thrive at an environmental cost,
Quantum growth surges, more power gobbled up.
AI’s thirst for energy matches entire nations,
A bloated rabid beast grasping chi from the punters.

Amazon, Google, and Microsoft say nuclear is key,
To cut down emissions as they ridiculously expand.
Power-drunk executives claim nuclear is smart,
Capitalists saving the planet seems oceans apart.

Claiming to be green while driving demand higher,
Like lighting up the earth, fuel rods for the fire.
As our energy consumption insatiably grows,
The planet in birth pains continues to groan.

Hurricanes and floods and wildfires galore,
Nature’s warning signs become harder to ignore.
As temperatures rise and ecosystems strain,
We must change our path or face lasting pain.

Is nuclear for fossil fuels a clean solution?
The risks seem to outweigh this perceived revolution.
Solar and wind will can save millions from harm,
Nuclear waste lingering loses its charm.

The cost for a reactor exceeds solar’s might,
And weapons proliferation adds a new sleight.
Mining uranium brings cancer’s deadly breath,
Radiation exposure an invitation from death.

So what do we make of this contradiction?
Bold clean energy claims fail in prediction.
To be green is to turn to the sun and the breeze:
A nature sustainable that heals, not deceives.
