The City of Love

A short bilingual poem contrasting Parisian symbolism, love and beauty with the anger and unrest simmering beneath the surface.

Torn between joy & pride,
shame & despondency —
beneath iconolatry,
smouldering cars grab attention
quicker than smouldering resentment.


Écartelé entre joie et fierté,
honte et abattement —
sous l’iconolâtrie,
les voitures qui se consument attirent l’attention
plus vite que le ressentiment qui couve.
