Misaligned

A brief reflection on depression, memory and the quiet return to the present through an ordinary afternoon.

Lying on the bed with my clothes on.
It’s a lucid afternoon, & this misaligned door,
caught by the wind gusting through,
eloquently mimics my banging head four years ago.

Depression comes and goes.

In the moment, I spring up after 30 seconds,
& slide the doorstopper underneath with my foot.
As I meander toward the window,
I can hear birds singing sweet melodies.
