Visions in Kaolack: Peering into the Dark Sky in Senegal

once in Kaolack

the sun shone fairly bright,
golden leaves fall to the floor
and in the gentle breeze
i see batman’s cape
easing through the sky.

once in Kaolack, Senegal
at a bustling pilgrimage,
a fervent crowd grew under the stars.
“look” one said. “there’s our prophet”
as he pointed high.

“there’s his eyes.”
“there’s his nose.”
“there’s his beard.”

the excitement ferments
as I look into the sky
seeing puffs of cotton wool
slowly disseminating.
