Monotheism

A stark short poem questioning how three faiths united by belief in one God can become divided by conflict, violence and religious identity.

ho theos monos

jews, christians, muslims,
belong to monotheism.

seems two are jealous
& want to get rid of one.

i gawped to the east
& what was going on?

soldiers stormed
a shia mosque with guns

(& their boots on).

destroyed distant relics
of ancient babylon,

while

vehemently denying
it’s a war of religion

while

shaking down elements
in a war of attrition.
