hard times

A short poem about money coming and going, turning an ordinary twenty-pound note into a moment of comic recognition.

i must be so broke
that when i present
a crisp twenty pound note

and the shopkeeper
(he knows my habits)
raised his eyebrows

oooooo nice! – where did
that come from Skendong?
it comes and goes

i smiled.
