Misunderstood: An Encounter with a Spotted Hyena

Misunderstood

I invited a spotted hyena for dinner,
to guide me through the badlands.
‘Come alone. We’ll eat and drink wine,’

and that strange laugh.

he departed with a smile
and after midnight, it returned
with a cacophonous pack.
