The final seal.
Dharma’s lease,
Time hangs still

But in this long and
wonderful song,
one voice muted,
a story undone.

Why hear no name
Ọlọrun?
Heaven withholds
your secret.

Mortals speak,
yet fail to hear,
the fire burning
in silent night.

History whitewashed,
name struck out —
praise diminished,
a narrative erased.

Yet in the heart,
and in Yoruba art,
we sense the aura,
a primal flame.

Africa’s face,
its nose shot off,
a founding grace,
but lofty spirit.

As all the names are
recited in twilight:
Ọlọrun’s ray —
is exact same Light.

A symbolic portrait of a figure with a missing nose and a flame, with rays of light and symbols from various world religions converging on the figure's head.

“Until the lion tells the story, the hunter will always be the hero.” — African Proverb
