A Vespertine Farewell

When the hair of your lover
Begins to cover his eyes.
In this vespertine hour,
Your solemn heart bleeds.

On the narrow staircase,
You brush past each other,
Carefully avoiding
Not to touch each other.

He bowls out the door,
You head to the single room,
To rest weary thoughts on
The lavender-scented pillow.

You know it’s over—
Dead in the water.
