Skendong Poetry - Wealth and Want

Wealth and Want

A humorous short poem about poverty, luxury and the unexpected hazards of expensive perfume, capturing an awkward moment where wealth meets a lifetime of want.

I’ve lived through so much poverty,
& it really shows when, gifted a bottle
Of Versace Oud Noir De Parfum,
I fervidly set a bath.
Then oiled my skin, preened my face
& orgasmic – ready to spray –
But when I eased on the golden nozzle,
The vapour shot the other way.
Fuck! I can’t be doing that, I spat,
Heavenly scent permeated the air.
That probably cost about two quid so
Next time I’ll press with pedantic care.
