Before the Lincoln Memorial
A political dream imagining Trump’s closing argument at the end of the midterm election campaign, played out against the backdrop of the Lincoln Memorial.
I had a dream.
That the 47th President concluded
A midterm election campaign with
A closing argument like no other.
Forget the tight ass of Mike Rogers,
Or the beautiful ass of Nicky Minaj.
He holds up a picture
Of a troubled reflecting pool as proof
Washington and indeed the nation
Can be fixed – but for that
We don’t have enough time.
The bottom line?
“Look at what I did!” he sprouts.
Caulking, painting and new pipes put in.
The pipes have been important
In terms of algae and other things –
It’s a complete job. He’s proud.
The few dozen people and weary press
Were notably subdued and quiet.
Never mind the botched installations.
Never mind the six-month delay.
Never mind the multimillion-dollar
No-bid contract awarded without
The proper review process –
Or the $12 million overspend.
The flag-blue water is a soft
Medium bright shade of green, and
Algal blooms cloud the pool behind.
“Pretend I’m on the ballot!
You’re voting for meeeeeeeeeee!
You’re voting for meeeeeeeeeee!”
The White House is transformed
Into a Saddam Hussein-style
Cheesecake Factory.
& a golden promise of $5,000
If the faithful bring the red vote in.
If you’re thinking of the cost of living,
That’ll buy little more than “a hamburger
And a small dessert” at Mar-a-Lago.
He solemnly promised to drain D.C.,
But POTUS’s swamp of corruption
Is a mile deep and mega-wide.
At the speech’s rambling finale,
In the scope of Putin, Kim & Xi –
He stepped into the shiny black limo
As the motorcade slithers slowly
Past the reflection of green.
The people
Have already made up their minds.
