New Guise of Power
A dark green olive train
slowly slithers,
armor-plated,
into Beijing
Kim’s attending
a massive parade –
a military
show of might,
show of strength.
A show starring
Putin, Modi and Xi Jinping
laughing
as they knock
Donald Trump
off the top of
an agenda
where there’s
no Gaza,
no Sudan,
no Haiti.
Blimey.
Kim’s arrived.
Tomorrow
will be a show,
a guise that
cannot disguise
the swirling
feeling that
the sand grains
of power
are shifting.
Nothing that is old
lodges for the new.
One authoritarian goes,
another comes,
but the earth
remains
everlasting.
