Sorry Ukraine – A Poetic Pause In Troubled Times

Sorry Ukraine

Sorry Ukraine
For not engaging,
So much happening
lately.

I tuned in daily,
Mental fatigued.
The cost of living
Suppressing.

No longer the headline
Atop of the pile –
Beergate, Partygate
Fiery hate

In Afghanistan,
Syria and Mali.
The list is endless –
Sorry.

Covid
Rarely on the agenda
Yet I’ve been attending
Funerals regular.

I need air,
Let me go for a walk.
As soon I step out
John wants to talk:

“I’ve got a car
But can’t even fuel it.
Cupboard full of food
But can’t even heat it.

Never mind my sister
And family of five.
Veteran brother and
His fractured mind.”

Sorry Ukraine,
For not engaging,
So much happening
lately.

I tuned in daily,
Mental fatigued.
The cost of living
Suppressing.
