Love Echoes: A Poem of Life, Longing and Hope

my love

when you were here,
there was always a sweet
musky scent exuding
from the red or yellow roses
ever present in the living room
on the wicker coffee table.

when you were gone,
the only thing I can smell
is the fragrance of your
green silk shamrock scarf
i wear around my neck
at bedtime.

i’ve washed it several times,
but it still smells of you,
as i toss and turn in the current
river of sweat i wake up –
widen my eyes and wonder,
how we will meet again.
