Jesus Under The Rubble
Let us go to Beit Lehem &
See this thing that’s happening
The Lord has told us about.
Mary kissed the baby’s cheek,
Swaddling clothes she wrapped him in
& laid to rest his little head.
She crept out the room as
Joseph prepared for visitors
When
Unceasing screams
Unceasing screams –
All are shrouded
In phosphorus dust.
The magi & the shepherds
Had just arrived. Frantic.
With bare & hopeful hands
Digging,
Digging,
Through mangled stone.
They have to find him,
They have to find him
Or they will return
& in יהוה G-d’s name,
& report all the things
They heard & seen
A crying shame
A crying shame.
So –
Christmas is cancelled.
Your prayers are not.
