Remember King Leopold? This is Congo Kinshasa

By No Comments1 min read
Cobalt miners toil under King Leopold's ghostly gaze.

Congo Kinshasa

Cobalt is being dug
Where the forest stood yesterday,
In subhuman conditions
For a few dollars a day.

I imagine this is dire
For humanity and the planet.
But if you disagree, then
Pay no attention to this.

Picture captured by Alice Seely Harris in Baringa depicting Bompenju, Lofiko—brothers of Nsala—, a third person, John Harris and Edgar Stannard with the hands of Lingomo and Bolengo, which have allegedly been killed by sentries of the ABIR.

Footnote: King Leopold II of Belgium enslaved the Congo in the late 1800s, killing millions. Today, cobalt mining for smartphones and electric cars repeats cycles of exploitation.
